Contemporary and Classic Modern Dance
sjDANCEco’s annual fall concert premieres new choreography by Artistic Directors Maria Basile and Gary Masters as well as company choreographer Hsiang-Hsiu Lin and other company dancers, at the California Theatre in downtown San Jose.
From 2008 to 2012, sjDANCEco had a commitment to bringing the master works of American modern dance choreographer, Jose Limon to the stage. Among them include, The Walstein Sonata, The Winged, There is a Time, Missa Brevis and, The Moor’s Pavane. In 2014 and 2015 we brought Mazurkas to our audiences.
Recent guest choreographers have included Karen Gabay, Rasika Kumar, Robert Dekkers, Kara Davis, and Margaret Wingrove.
In collaboration with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra conducted by Barbara Day Turner, sjDANCEco features live music from local composers such as Michael Touchi and Michael Chang. sjDANCEco has a continued commitment to bring world premieres from company and guest choreographers to the South San Francisco Bay Area.
sjDANCEco's annual winter concert features new choreography from emerging company choreographers and guest companies. Recent guest companies include, project agora - SF, Diablo Ballet, SpectorDance, and Lindsey Renee Derry.
