sjDANCEco's ChoreoProject Award's Concert is a low-tech dance series for all dance disciplines (modern, ballet, hip hop, jazz, ethnic dance, etc.) designed to provide emerging and professional choreographers a cost free opportunity to present their work.
Choreographers are selected by audition and two awards will be given. The sjDANCEco Award (selected by the Artistic Directors based on choreographic strength) and the Audience Choice Award (chosen by the audience via ballot vote). Awardees are invited to perform during the professional hour of the sjDANCEco Festival at Santana Row in April.
The ChoreoProject series has been in existence since 2005 and became a bi-annual event in 2012.

sjDANCEco's ChoreoProject Award's Concert is a low-tech dance series for all dance disciplines (modern, ballet, hip hop, jazz, ethnic dance, etc.) designed to provide emerging and professional choreographers a cost free opportunity to present their work. Choreographers must be professional level. All performers must be professionals or of pre-professional quality. Undergraduate student choreographers are not eligible to apply. Pieces presented for audition should be complete and no longer than fifteen minutes. Dancers auditioning **must** be the same dancers performing.
Application Deadline: September for the Fall Concert and December for the Spring Concert (See application for exact dates)
Audition Information: Auditions should be submitted by Online Video or DVD. (Online Video is preferred - no password protected links) Applications CANNOT be considered without a video link or DVD. DVDs must ARRIVE to sjDANCEco no later than the application deadline. Please mail DVD submissions to sjDANCEco, P.O. Box 59818, San Jose, CA, 95159.
Performances: Friday and Saturday in November/March @ 2:30pm and 7:00pm. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE TO PERFORM IN ALL PERFORMANCES.
LOCATION: SJSU Dance Theatre; Spartan Complex 216
Required Tech Rehearsal: Friday, between 9am & 1pm **Tech is mandatory for participation. Please take these dates into consideration when applying and be prepared to make arrangements (i.e.- work, childcare, transportation, etc.) Tech will be approximately 15 minutes long. We cannot make special arrangements if you cannot make your scheduled tech time. This is a spacing tech.
**Technical note about lighting - This is a LOW-TECH performance series. You will have approximately 10 different 'looks' (mix of warm and cool) to choose from. You get a cue for lights on and a cue for lights off. There will not be changes in lighting throughout your piece.
You will be notified by e-mail of your acceptance. We highly encourage applicants that are not accepted to attend the performances. Tickets for non-accepted applicants will be provided by sjDANCEco. Accepted Choreographers will receive one comp ticket to each performance (this is for you to use yourself - if you are dancing in your piece, and do not wish to have a seat after you perform; you may assign this ticket to a guest)
Two awards will be given - the sjDANCEco Award (to non-company members); selected by the Artistic Directors, and the Audience Choice Award; selected by the audience via ballot vote. All awardees are invited to perform (free of charge) at the sjDANCEco Festival @ Santana Row in April.
